About the artist
Lydia Carter is an emerging artist and Edinburgh College of Art graduate. Her background is in traditional oil portraiture, with a recent focus on folk craft, weaving together themes of labour, land and identity.

"The interdisciplinary nature of my practice has led me to adopt a number of rural and endangered crafts. I have been compiling techniques as well as making my own fine art materials, aiming to combine earth ritual and home-grown process. This has grown alongside my painting practice, and I maintain my skills with regular commissions.
My upbringing in rural Somerset and involvement in nature conservation fortifies a sacred and devotional relationship with the natural world. The physical, repetitive quality of land work, painting and traditional craft thus inform a spell-like, ritualistic approach to my practice."
